Contact lens lost in my eye

Yesterday's contact lens is still missing. It seems to have migrated up and over my eyeball. I've been to the walk-in centre, who tried to pass me on to Minor Injuries, but they didn't want to have a go at it. The nurse at the walk-in has established that there is a lens in there, but she can't get it out. So now I've got to go to the A&E dpt on the other side of town. Just having a cuppa before I set off.

Thanks. It's just started to rain now, and I don't know if I can be bothered setting out, but I suppose the sooner I go, the sooner it'll all be over.

PT - how horrible. Hope it's sorted soon. What sort of lens is it? A soft one or gas permeable?

Um, a daily disposable one - guess that's soft. Thankfully, I'm not squeamish - I think it could be a nightmare otherwise.

i have worn contact lenses, and i never knew that could happen and yuk!!!

Right: bearing in mind that one Minor Injuries Unit already passed up the opportunity to look in my eye, and the Walk-In Centre saw the edge of a lens...

The Minor Injuries Unit at the 2nd hospital had no choice. They looked in my eye, they turned my eyelid inside-out, they fetched a colleague, they stained my eye orange, and they concluded - NO LENS. I am advised not to wear lenses for a couple of days, and it'll probably settle down. If not, I'm to take myself to the Eye Clinic (back at first hospital).

I have a bit of a pain in the back of my eye when I close it, but that could be soreness caused by my poking my eye on and off since last night. Hopefully, all will be well.

Dh had previously assured me that it was not possible for a contact lens to get lost in your eye. [anger] It is now obvious that it happens regularly enough for medics to use terms like 'usually'.
