How many illnesses does your child get at nursery

My 11 month old has been at nursery since 4 months and has been constantly ill since. Mainly with coughs and colds. The coughing seems to make her vomit and usually it is her milk that irritates this. It takes her 5-6 weeks to recover only to become ill again 1-2 weeks later. This is affecting her eating and sleeping.

I am at the end of my tether. But i have to work.

If my ds1 gets ill and vomits for whatever reason I have to keep milk off him for a bout 2 weeks. Or he gets the runs really bad. As for coughs and colds its supposed to be better to get things when you are younger isnt it?

My sister is a nursery nurse and gets everything going around!!!!

I suggest you mention this to both nursery and HV to get their views.

Abirosie, have you thought about using something like echinacea to boost her immune system? we use it all the time and our toddlers hardly ever get sick.

if its any consolation getting colds and infections early on is supposed to prevent leukemia later.

I would guess that its probably going to improve soon. If she's 11 months she was born in June (?) and started nursery in October (?). My DD was born in May and started in October which is really, IMO, a bad time to start because it is the beginning of the cough/cold season. DD was absolutely dreadful for the first 3 months - not just colds but tummy bugs on average once a fortnight and also conjunctivitis generally with a cold. She has still been getting the colds but the tummy bugs are no longer a problem.

DS was the same for the first while at nursery to the point of projectile vomitting and ending up in A&E the first week. But at age 4.3 I/he had not had any time off nursery through illness for over two years which I think is a pretty good record. Luckily I was on maternity leave when he had an op for grommets/adenoids and when he got chicken pox. Just hope that it means he will be nicely immune when he starts school in September.

i would say yes to vitamins, a good one tailored for children. don't know if 11v months too young for echinasea..
