blurred spots in one eye - might it be pg related?

for the last couple of months, i have had a couple of blurred spots in my right eye. i first noticed them when reading, certain sections of the page would be blurred, now they are more noticeable on a daily basis, when doing normal things. i am short sighted, wearing contacts with a prescription of about -5.00. have tried new contacts and get them when not wearing any or wearing my glasses.
might they be pg related? i am due in a few weeks.

I would definitely phone your midwife/ante natal clinic to check it out. Blurred vision can be a symptom of preclampsia. It's probably not that, but it's worth getting it checked out just incase.xxx

Could they be floaters?

Mine seem worse when I'm pg (possibly as my eyes get tired more easily).

Def speak to MW just to rule out preclampsia as TOK said.

It could also be early signs of a detached retina. Unfortunately we short sighted people are more prone to it. A friend of mine had the same when she was pregnant and had to have a c-section because the pushing could make it actually happen. She is fine and never had any problems since.

I'm sure it's nothing but I would have it checked by an optometrist straight away.

oh heck, i was hoping someone would say it was totally normal!i'd better do both the midwife and the optician then. i have noticed more floaters as well, tiredness i suppose. my bp and wee have been fine (i'm being monitored every week due to gest diabetes and polyhydramnios), will mention it on mon at my appt and drop into the opticians too.
thanks.

pregnancy can alter the shape of your eye ( more fluid i think)

but this sort of thing should be checked out

pre eclampsia tends to be more visual disturbances, more like floaty bits, or flashes

but definitely be checked

olivo · 24/07/2009 18:43

i'd heeard that lulu, as it can make your contact lenses uncomfortable.
have just googled detached retina and totally scared myself. will be phoning specsavers in the morning.

I was just about say preeclampsia but someone already has. Get it checked out ASAP.

bitofadramaqueen · 24/07/2009 18:54

I had all sorts of bother with my eyes when pg and eventually had to give up my contacts. I had visual disturbances, flashes and pregnancy migraines. All very frightening at the time but I was fine. Still worth getting checked out though as soon as you can.
