I really really don't want to come on this weekend. Is there any way I can stop it... does anyone know??

I know I've most likely left it too late now, but I've been away on holiday and unable to consult my GP, and now I cannot get an appointment with her till next week (too late).

I take a low dose HR and my periods have all but stopped TBH, but I just know from the aches I'm getting that I will damn well come on in the next day or two.

Don't think so. Mine came today and DH are away to a wedding having a child free overnight stay. Bloody typical!!

PlumBumMum · 22/07/2009 13:53

I got tablets from the doctor to take to delay mine until nearer the end of my honeymoon, can't remember what they are called and it was 9 years ago,
but surely something sill exists and I think I had to take them a couple of days before my period due(due on my wedding day)

Yes it's called Norist summat. I had to take it a few days before i was due but too late for OP if she can't get an appt till next week.

We went away for our anniversary last year and i had it then too. We have 4 dc ages 3 to nearly 18 and we never get to have swinging from the chandeliers sex so was really excited about having a night away

The GP practice has a pharmacy attached. I might call in on my way home from work and ask the pharmacist. Or throw myself on the mercy of the receptionist. Perhaps if I say I'm happy to sit and wait to take take the appointment of anyone who cancels or doesnt turn up.....

Norethisterone.

PlumBumMum · 22/07/2009 14:06

My surgery let you ring and ask the secertary for particular prescription, saves wasting an appointment, if doc needs to speak to you, she lets you know, is that not possible?

shouldweorshouldntwe · 22/07/2009 14:10

I think you really have to see the Doc before being prescribed Norethisterone because of possible side effects. I use them regularly and have quite a few lying around the house but the Doc wouldnt let me give them to DD last year (before she went to Leeds festival). She had to actually see the Doc herself. So I dont think the receptionist could deal with this.

themoon · 22/07/2009 14:18

Right... am going to call at GP's on my way home today. Do you think I've left it too late though?

Those of you who took the tablets to hold off your periods, can you remember how many days beforehand you had to start taking them?

Just done a bit of googling and it looks like I've left it too late... info seems to suggest you need to start taking it at least one week before you are due. I only have 3 days left

I was told to take it at least a few ie 4 or 5. It's a bugger isn't it?

Wuxiapian · 22/07/2009 17:15

A friend of mine uses a cut up piece of sponge - an inch or so in diameter - at certain times for, ahem, certain times.

I tried it a couple times, too.

Just dig it out after.

Saucepanman · 22/07/2009 17:18

Ooh I was going to ask this! We are going to Disneyland Paris and I am due on smack bang in the middle of the 4 days we are there- not a tempting prospect. Will ring GP pronto

TimeForMe · 22/07/2009 17:27

I've just had it prescribed for me today. I have to take it three days before period due to start so you may not be too late if you can get it today.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 22/07/2009 17:29

I took that for PMT it turned me back into a teen i erupted in spots and had really lank, greasy hair, i did stop my period though.

inthemistsoftime · 22/07/2009 17:44

I had to laugh at this thread as I am in exactly the same situation!

Am going away for the weekend for the first time with nm and have realised that AF will probably choose to show her self!

aGalChangedHerName · 22/07/2009 17:48

to the sponge idea lol

My friend often has sex during her period and although i am desperate i don't really think i could. DH wouldn't care about mess etc but.....

themoon · 22/07/2009 19:29

I'd be very embarrassed about making a mess in a hotel bed. Not so bad if I was at home and washing my own sheets

I couldnt get to see the GP on my way home from work, so weekend is pretty much a flop now.

LOL DH has suggested taking a bath sheet from home now. I think not love. Ach well next time eh?

monkeyfacegrace · 22/07/2009 21:03

Ah come on blood is only another bodily fluid! Think of all that extra lube, you can go for longer . Im afraid me and OH have dangerously high sex drives, going a day without sex is a big no-no!
I think taking a bath sheet is perfectly reasonable!

monkeyfacegrace · 22/07/2009 21:04

(sorry, too much info- didnt realise till after I posted. Damn this glass of wine...)

aGalChangedHerName · 23/07/2009 06:39

Lol Monkeyface we did do the deed last night and it was ok. My period is much lighter with the Mirena and there wasn't really any mess

So am thinking about a bath sheet being packed now

monkeyfacegrace · 23/07/2009 08:08

Go girl!

ILYM · 23/07/2009 11:04

My 14 year old dd was going away to Welsh camp with school about 6 weeks ago - swimming canoeing etc,as she has not tried tampons yet was abit worried about what to do-(def not a time for the dreaded period!!) My doc was excellent - spoke to him on phone he prescribed tablets and I picked them up from the pharmacy - twas easiest consultation I had ever had with any doctor!
All the doc advised was they were started three days before her period was due.
