My little brother's lung collapsed yesterday :(

Anyone have any experience of a collapsed lung? My mum was upset when she called to tell me and I couldn't really make out what she was saying He is a very fit 14 year old, very tall and lanky and aparently this can be a factor. He had trouble breathing at school and they took him to a hospital more than 100 miles away as they have a specialist unit. It is too far for me to travel, 5 hours by train and I just can't do it with the dc. He had a GA yesterday and something put in his chest. I don't understand how this could have happened

It's called a spontaneous pneumothorax and can happen in tall thin people,men in particulat

the tube will be a chest drain to allow the lung to reinflate

An ex boyfriend had this when he was in his early 20s. It is apparently more common in young men (he is tall and slim too). I imagine it would be very scary at the time for all of you, but as long as it's treated he will be fine. They will have inserted a tube to reinflate the lung.

I expect he'll be up and about and showing off his impressive scar to his mates before you know it

I'm going to go shopping tomorrow so I can send him a nice parcel to open when he gets home. From what my mum said I think his is quite a serious case, but he's in the best place he can be
