Need support / someone to talk to - I'm in hideous pain after wisdom teeth op :( Come and cheer me up pls!

I had two wisdom teeth out last Tues under GA, and I've had the worst week since then.

Basically I've been in huge pain since then. I'm on my second course of anti-biotics and I've tried taking solpadol for the pain, which didn't help at all, so my dooctor gave me tramodol which also didn't do a ting, so yesterday my doctor gave me morphine which stoped the pain but made me feel so nauseous (I'm on anti-sickness tablets as well.) Dh took the day off work yesterday but had to go back today. I haven't taken any morphine today as it knocked me out last night. My mum brought the dc home from school but has gone home now and I'm still in hideous pain. My dd is having a huge tantrum as I write, because I'm not able to take her to her swimming lesson. Dh is due to get home around 7 pm. I just need to get throug the next few hours - help!

You poor thing! I had one out a year ago, but it healed quickly, luckily.
So it's been a week and you're still in this much pain? I really think you should be going back to see the dentist/dental surgeon in case you have an infection in there or something, I would really have thought it would be healing by now.
Hope you get some more good advice.

I'm due to see my dental surgeon on Fri. I went back to the (BUPA) hospital yesterday who gave me the tramodol and the surgeon's message that if I'm feeling poorly I can see him at his Harley Street surgery before then. Which is nice but completely impractical as I live way out of London and can braely make it upstairs... . I have a stomach condition too, Crohn's Disease, which has been set off big time by all this. And I think I might have thrush too.

Dd has calmed down now at least and is playing with ds in the other room...that's good at least!

Dh also phoned to say he should be home by 6 ish so that's good too.

The pain is just unbelievably bad though.

Gargle with some hot salt water, as hot and salty as you can stand. I know it is an old fashioned remedy but I did this after I had all 4 wisdom teeth out together and they were healing nicely after a week.

Corsodyl mouthwash - I had a wisdom tooth out and it was still agony after a week, ended up on antibiotics etc. - and this really helped - I just wish I had known about it sooner!

How are you feeling today Clockface?
Salt and water gargle definitely the way to go, do it after every meal if you're not already. Maybe that's why mine healed so quickly.

Hi!

I am still in a fair bit of pain tbh. I've been gargling, and using Corsydal. Just about to take my next abtch of anti-biotics and some paracetomol and Crohn's meds. Blimey....

I had a phone call last night from a friend who'd had a terrible time after her wisdom teeth were removed and that kind of made me feel better . I want to be feeing better enough by Friday to get out of this house and go shopping. I got the dc up and ready for school this a.m. and did the school run - first time since I had the teeth out. I was pretty wiped out afterwards. I'd like to have a nap now but I'm in too much pain to sleep . So i'm just sitting here reading MN!

you could possibly have what they call dry sockets i had one a few months ago its where the blood clot fails to develop in the extraction site -the pain is awful -id go back to get a clove dressing put over the sites it tastes disgusting but takes so much of the pain away ,i just took co-codoml but it didnt touch the pain.

Wow Candyfuff I have just Googled that and it rings so true. The unbearaable pain came on about 3 or 4 days after the suregery, and the day it started I remember everything tasted disgusting - couldn't eat a thing.

by the way if it is a dry socket the i t will take a lot longer to heal than normal mine took a good 6 weeks

I am slightly better today. But 6 weeks???? That's awful. Were you in agony?

Last night I took some Tramodol but boy did it make me sick. I decided then not to use any more hard core pain killers as the side effects are as bad as the pain itself .

And...exciting thing...for the first time in over a week, I am going out this afternoon! Just popping to the shops with my mum for an hour. I hope I'm going to be okay...

no not in pain for 6 weeks
just a week maybe 10 days ,really think you should ask for a clove dressing they just lay it gently over the hole and it deadens the pain so much

Sorry to hear you're still hurting Clockface
My DH had a small operation last week and they gave him Tramodol for afterwards, 20 minutes after he takes a tablet he's slurring and dizzy, and has to go to bed. He's decided to put up with the pain and make do with paracetamol rather than take any more of them.
Are you still due to see your surgeon tomorrow? Hopefully he or she can do something for you.

Well, I saw my consultant today and the upshot is that it was an 'extremely difficult extraction' and that he'd had to go very deep and try his darndest not to damage the nerve bundles which are precariously close to the surface of my gum. The years of steroid-taking for Crohn's Disease have not helped amtters.

Also yes I do have large dry sockets . He put in dressings (very clovey) and just recommended taking the strongest pain killers I can stomach without vomiting . It just seems that I've been unfortunate with this. It is really sore again today and I'm feeling very crotchety. Grrrr. Blimmin' teeth.

I had 3 out in january under GA, so you really do have my deepest sympathy. They think that they may have fractured my jaw when they did mine, but give that it took 4 months to get an appointment to see the consultant again, the pain had gone by then!

Just try and take it easy, and although its a nightmare to try and eat, its better if you are taking the pain killers on food as it might not upset your stomach so much.

And remember there are no medals for bravory - do as little as possible!

I now Geordieminx, but part of my frustration is that I have so much to do - we are moving house in a month and renting this one out, so we're having it re-wired, re-plastered, having windows and doors replaced, having it recarpeted, to hopefully get a tenant in by the start of Oct...and of course before any of that can happen, we have to empty this house and get rid of around half our stuff (we are down-sizing)...agggh! I am sooooooooo behind! So this has happened at a really crap time.

Also the final weeks at work here and meeting up with friends to say goodbye have been well and truly kaiboshed. We are having a leaving party next weekend and I am mighty determined to go ahead with that even if I am feeling rubbish.

How did your extraction go? 3 is a lot to have out...

It wasnt pretty - 2 bottom and 1 top. I looked like this only without the stubble.

I had my mum up for a week to look after ds who was 20 months at the time.

Are you sure you don't have a bone infection? DH was in terrible pain after getting his out and it was down to that.

Dry sockets is a bone inflammtion, Londonartemis. It's not infected as far as I know...

hi clockface gald you went back ,has the clove dressing helped at all ,i also had infection and was on strong antibiotics for 2 weeks (metronidazole) hellish meds
amoxicillin made me have terrible diareoah.
