What to eat after tummy bug? Warning not nice and possibly TMI

I woke up yesterday with griping tummy ache and awful diarrhea, I was ill all day and ate very little although I drank plenty of water.

Just after I lay down to try and sleep I felt nauseous and only just made it to the bathroom where I was violently sick.

I then slept well and have woken feeling a lot better but still feeling queasy and I'm starving.

Whats the best thing to eat that won't have me heaving again?

Something dry - crackers? toast (with no butter)? Just a slice of bread?

No milk/dairy for a few days though - it can make you a lot worse!

Non-dairy stuff - marmite on toast kind of thing.

If you grate apple and let it go brown, that's really, really good for a recovering tummy.

And just go with what your body's telling you - take it easy.

Personally I would stick with clear fluids for 24 hours, but if you are really starving, go for dry toast/crackers or plain rice. Don't be surprised if it comes back up again though!

I think our insides need a rest after a tummy upset.

Thanks weegie, stuck some toast in toaster, can't say I fancy it without butter mind you

I've just had the same thing, and started with plain pasta (with some salt), flat coca cola and lots of water. You need to replace the salts and sugars that you have lost, so if you could get someone to go to the pharmacy you can get sachets of powder which have the correct doses of these. It will help with the re-hydration.
It's been five days now, and I am eating normal food again and feeling fine, so hang in there!

I like to eat boiled potatoes, carrots and peas after I've been ill, but I'm aware that's weird.
Get well soon
