What do you do with dc if you have to go into hospital?

I don't really know what to do. Without getting into details, there's a good chance I'll be admitted to hospital tomorrow. I am a single parent with 2 dc. What am I meant to do with them?? Right now I am hoping that one of my friends will be able to step in and help, but what if noone can? I have no family nearby and it's worrying me more than the hospital itself!

When I say no family nearby, I mean they are literally about 5 or 6 hours away. And youngest is still breastfed which is going to cause all sorts of hassle

If there's really no-one else then social services are notified I think and they'll find temporary care, but you'll be given every opportunity to make your own arrangements with friends or family.Is it worth asking your friends if they can help so you know rather than haing to phone round if you are admitted? Where are you? Am wondering if any mumsnetters could help? I hope you are ok and not in any pain or anything.

Social services would help youand place the children in temporary care i am sure.

It would make me nervous too.

if no-one can help, you can call social services and they'll be given a place to stay.

but surely someone in your family will travel?

I know it sounds silly but it feels such an imposition to ask friends though I know I wouldn't hesitate if they asked the same of me. I think I'll have to get on the phone in the morning

lgt, I have no idea how long it wouldbe for. I really need to be seen but the thought of social services stepping in is making me not want to go at all. My family are not helpful at the best of times sadly

can you tell us where you are? maybe a mumsnetter local to you could provide a temporary fall-back solution if friends can't help? Please let us help, you sound very worried and this is what mumsnet is for..

30, I do know some lovely MNetters actually, but they already have enough to deal with withtheir own broods I am sure I'll see what the morning brings

1, the 'baby' is a wriggly 14 month old It's too late to call people now, most don't keep such unsocial hours as I do, but I will get something sorted. If needs be maybe my family will step in, so fingers crossed

i hope u r ok. I had this dilemma on friday - am also a single parent with 2 kids, only family is a sister 8 hours ago.

Although i was only in for the day, luckily my friend stepped in (i felt really carp asking her but there was no one else!) and she was lovely. Sister said that if i had been kept in, then she would have got the train down the next day to stay with dc.

Stupid thing is - dc's dad lived 10 miles up the road, but is a total pain, and there has been no contact with dc for over 3 month now. He twists that much at having to care for dd2 esp (she is only 2.6) that last time i was in hopsital with DD1, he just came to the hospital after 3 days and literally just dumped her on me, saying that DD1 was old enough to stay in hospital on her own - i would have to go home with dd2
