Last night my boyfriend pointed out that he could feel a pea sized lump in my breast, honestly I have never felt it before but I am not religious about checking myself.

I can't feel one on the other side so I am assuming it is a lump and not a normal part of the tissue iyswim. But its like in the middle of my breast, I thought lumps were always on the surface, I can only feel it if I really push down.

So do I have to go to the Drs? Not worried really so is it necessary? I am 20 and pretty healthy. If I do can I see the nurse instead I like her more and feel more comfortable with her. I have to see her in about 2 weeks should I just bring it up then, or try and see her (or the dr sooner)? What will happen, will they just check me? I know these are stupid questions but I don't know anyone else to ask.

Sorry, smurfgirl, but yes, you have to go, and if you see the nurse she will have to send you to see the doc anyway. Chances are very high that it's benign, or some kind of cyst, but it is important to get it checked. Go sooner rather than later, I would. Definitely necessary I'm afraid.

HI smurfgirl i think with things like this its always better to get it checked out anyway even if its not likley to be anything and im sure your nurse will beable to have a feel and tell youh er professional opinion, she should be able to advise you if you need to see a dr or not, but if its in the middle it may just be a swollen gland or something but best to get it checked when you see the nurse good luck x

Yes, you have to go the see the doctor and get it checked out. It's probably harmless but you need to have it checked out as soon as you can. If you see the nurse she will only have to ask you to see the GP anyway, as she is not in a position to refer you to the people who will be able to tell you for sure what the lump is.

I am not overly keen on my Dr though...thats the big thing. Hes a nice enough man and fine for most things but, I would feel weird going to him with something like this. Even though I know its not even an issue for him. I am stupid I know. Can I see another Dr in the practise even if I normally see mine?

Yes, of course- you can see any doctor you want, but trust me, a nurse will only refer you on so I would go straight to a doctor you like.

I have just had a lump removed which turned out to be nothing to worry about, BUT it wasn't on the surface and I only found out about it because it was causing the skin to dimple. Even the doctor couldn't feel it and it was found on the scan, so no, they are not only on the surface.

Are there any female doctors in the practice? I usually see a man but I just explained to the receptionist that it was a personal problem and in this instance I would prefer to see a woman if possible. She was fine and just made me an appointment with no question. I expect a lot of people feel the same way so they are used to it.

Go and get checked. It's most likely nothing but you have to make sure.
