What are the glands behind the ear for?

My left side has been swollen in a small hard but spongy lump for a few weeks, and now seems swollen but more evenly spread, not sure if that makes sense. It is definitely bigger on the left than the right.

Does not hurt or anything. What are these glands for?

Go see your doc! "A few weeks" !!

Really impossible to give you any real idea without seeing and examining your lump.
Lymph glands are part of the immune system and become larger/harder when activated ie by infection. However, from your description I am not at all sure that your swelling is a gland.
See your GP

pacificdogwood - well, I was not concerned, as I was being very unwell with hyperemesis for weeks and saw him every week for so long to do with this, it never really occured to me, as its not painful I did not really give it much credence and then put it down to be being so unwell with this pregnancy. It is not stupidly bigger so I thought I was just being paranoid i guess. I am always saying I feel shit like this, like that, like the other to the gp, just seemed like another thing to just moan about .

You poor thing, did not realise your were pregnant. Congrats on that and commiserations on the hyperemesis.

I really have no idea what your "thing" could be but go and moan about something new to your GP . We like a challenge at times...

Thanks for the sympathies. I am feeling much much better now courtesy of Cyclizine I have struggled to keep it under control even on this as I was stubborn and not wanted to take more than one tablet. Realise now I need 2 tablets, and LOTS of rest, as well as not expecting that after a few days of feeling well, its all fine, but may well come back again and not try to go back to normal routine immediately.

Probably why the ear thing has got my attention again. Not enough else to moan about .

I will pop along on friday and see him. I am sure he is missing me . I can't go before then as I am back at work tomorrow after yet more time off work.
