anyone had thrush when they were pregnant/trying for a baby?

my friend has thrush and she went to chemist and was given tablets and cream - she then read on the back and it said not to take if trying/pregnant - which she is

firstly chemist should have asked her, but she queried it and got a refund as chemist said she couldnt use it

so my question for her is what can she use?
what have all you good ladies used when had extreme itching/soreness?

I was prescribed treatment from the doctor but I can't remember what it was, sorry. It was a pessary and worked pretty much straight away. I didn't need cream.

I am pregnant and GP prescribed canestan combi (the one with the pessary). One pharmacist had previously told me I couldn't buy it without a prescription (not sure if that's true though, GP didn't seem to think so).

Thrush is v. common in pregnancy.

on the back of the canestan cream it said that pregnant/trying shouldnt use it - does yours say that laugs?

so whats the risk?

I don't still have the box, but the leaflet inside says:

If you are pregnant or trying for a baby, tell your doctor or midwife before using Canestan Combi 500mg Pessary % 2% Cream. If you have informed your doctor or midwife already, follow his/her instructions carefully. During pregnancy extra care should be taken when using the applicator.

This is a pack that says its for prescribed use only, though, so it's possible the over-the-counter one says something different. I think all medication says to contact doctor during pregnancy. Just to be on the safe side, I suppose.

My GP said just to be careful not to push the pessary too far up, but that it isn't really possible to do this anyway.

I had a horrible dose of thrush when I was pregnant and as I couldn't use canesten as I was sensitive to it my GP gave me another type of pessary. So if the canesten pessary doesn't clear t up for your friend her GP will have alternatives that are safe.

I have also been prescribed the pessary while pregnant and was told not to insert it too high.

Can I use Canesten® while menstruating or pregnant?

Although Canesten is safe to treat vulvovaginal yeast infections during menstruation, the treatment should ideally not be performed during a period and should be completed before the start of a period.
Hormonal changes during pregnancy increase the risk of vulvovaginal fungal infections which should be treated immediately. Although this is aclassical condition for self-medication, it is highly recommended that pregnant women consult a physician before starting treatment.
During pregnancy it is better to use vaginal tablets because they can easily be inserted without an applicator.
This removes any possibility, however small, of injury to the foetus. Canesten itself is not known to cause any damage and can be used safely during pregnancy.

I am (slightly) obsessed with the whole yeast thing, but it was Mumnset that alerted me to it...is worth looking into properly in case she has an actual yeast overgrowth...candidafree.co.uk is a good website, and threelac is an amazing probiotic that gets rid of thrush...safe to use when pregnant.
