and my lower back cracked, well made some funny noise and now I can hardly stand up. I can sit and lean over forwards and walk - if i walk a bit hunched like quasimodo - but really hurts when i stand up straight. Please tell me it will be fine and i can just take a couple of paracetamol

take some ibuprofen and stick an ice pack (frozen peas wrapped in a towel is great) on the sore bit

tigana · 28/05/2009 16:04

I don't know about the noise, but I am very familiar with the quasimodo style walking. When I get this, it's not that it hurts to straighten my back, I actually can't straighten my back.

I assume you were bending down from the waist rather than bending knees?

Muscle spasm/bulging disc.

Painkillers and gentle mobilisation. If sitting, ensure your back is well supported and you are sitting up straight.

See GP if really concerned/doesn't improve.

alternate ibruprofen and paracetmol and see your gp in the morning if no better
hope it's ok soon xxx

I've had that! Horrible isn't it?

I struggled on for a few days without seeing the doctors and taking ibuprofen but it didn't do much, if any good.

In the end I saw him and took anti-inflammatories for 24 hours and it improved a lot, right as rain within a couple of days.

Don't hang around getting to the docs. If it still hurts tomorrow getting an appointment would be a good idea.

saramoon · 28/05/2009 17:55

Yes, was bending from waist. Thanks a lot for advice, also spoke to my mum who works as an auxiliary nurse and she said it is common for people to sneeze and hurt their backs!

Will make an appointment at the doc if not better, have taken 2 paracetamol and one ibrofen but hasn't made much difference tbh.

How are you doing today Saramoon?

Hope you are feeling better.

saramoon · 29/05/2009 17:26

oh thanks niecie, actually i do feel better and my back has loosened up a bit. Have spent the day in the garden and have managed to put out washing and stuff. Looks like i won't have to go to the doctor.

I did this when carrying DD about a month ago, it was agony. I had a sports massage and the masseur could feel the knot where the muscle had spasmed. It was quite painful when he was working on it, but when he'd finished I was almost back to normal. I could feel the muscle twinging slightly for another week or so, the same feeling as when you have cramp in your leg then after you stretch out the cramp there is still a feeling that it might cramp again.

I hope your back clears up completely soon.
