Just google Bisto Best Gravy and found this. Thought I had better share www.coeliac.org.uk/news/1165.asp

TimeForME - Oxo cubes are not GF! I just used two in a Coq Au Vin! Gaaargh!

Are Knor cubes OK or Bullion cubes OK?

Wheat/Barley is JUST everywhere in our Western diet. I must say as a farmer's son we were not very careful cleaning our grain handling equipment so it is not surprising there is so much contamination in things like oats.

thumbwitch - thanks for the book reference. I am moving house soon and am getting a wholE set of new kitchen equipment and a bread maker so can do a proper GF/LF menu without buying ready made bread/biccy/cake stuff all the time.

Time - oh b*gger it. We are still working through old jars obv. You do have to read the label everytime ! On the upside, Walkers cheese and onion crisps are gf again.

Kallo stock cubes are GF, but not Knorr

TimeForMe · 27/05/2009 18:14

Awh sorry EBD, Oxo and Knorr both contain gluten. I use the Kallo stock cubes but I do find them a bit too salty for my liking. The Just Boullion cubes are gluten free and according to my food and drink directory so are Bovril stock cubes.

CMOTdibbler that's good news about Walkers cheese and onion crips. I've been eating the Seabrook ones since they are gluten free but I do like Walkers. On the Bisto best front, you should be still ok if you are using the older jars and hopefully the supermarket will still be stocking the gluten free one, I'm going to check anyway, it sounds delicious!

and have just worked out where today's upset tummy comes from: quorn mince has barley malt in it.

EvenBetaDad · 27/05/2009 19:20

Reading this thread has made me realise that when we move house I am going to have to bin everything in the food cupboards and start again.

Quorn has barley malt in - why would they do that?>

Our jars are fine, it's just I hate it when products have gluten in for no good reason.

Kallo do a low salt cube, and Marigold bouillon is nice.

Only the Quorn mince has barley malt in (as a colouring to make it look like beef) - normal quorn is gf

GrinnyPig · 27/05/2009 19:37

Marigold vegetable stock powder is GF. Tamari soy sauce is also GF - Tesco usually have it in the free from section.

TimeForMe · 27/05/2009 19:52

Have you tried these? www.eatnatural.co.uk/default.aspx not quite flapjack but a blooming good replacement!

EvenBetaDad · 27/05/2009 19:57

HoochieMooMa - I just this minute opened the drawer to take out one of my favourite Japanese rice crackers and thought smuggly:

"Ooh I bet there is definitley no gluten in these, cause it says Wheat Free on the pack".

How wrong I was. They are smothered in barley malt! No wonder I thought I felt a bit funny after eating them the other day.

Gaarghh!
