My mum fell off her horse this afternoon and is as we speak being x-rayed. The horse bucked and threw her off over his head where she landed slap on her back. She got up and said she felt fine even though it was very sore and then drove home.

She then started to feel dizzy and got sorer and sorer and then couldn't move at all because of the pain. She then got two bruises the size of my hand on either side of the base of her spine which turned black within 30 minutes.

We called an ambulance and they came and put her on a spinal board. She was really in a LOT of pain as they were moving her onto the obard and was crying which is VERY unlike my mum.

I'm so worried for her that she might have a very serious injury. Can anyone reassure me?
Two of my brothers are in with her in the hospital but with no news as she's still being assessed.

there really is a chance that she'll be fine

i fell in a similar way to your mum ie flat on my back. i then walked for a few hundred yards. an hour or so later i was in hospital being x-rayed.

what happened next for me was that they found i'd broken my back in several places. yes it was very painful. yes the recovery was slow BUT you wouldn't know anything had happened to me if you saw me now

i hope you get some good news soon.

You poor thing Miamla! It's amazing that you're fine after that so that gives me hope for mum.

good, i'm pleased you took hope from my tale! that was my intention!

the words "broken back" conjure up scary images to most so if that's what your mum has done, i wanted to try and put your mind at ease

forgot to add to 1st post, the important question to ask is whether or not the break is stable. (if it is a break)

please let us know how she gets on and feel free to ask any questions if you think i can help from my experience

thank you! I'll be on again if I hear anything I need answers to.

phew, she was released at 8.30 this evening. She's just badly bruised. She has a shocker of a bruise on her back. It's black and about the size of an A4 sheet.
