Have been to the doctor today am 7 weeks pregnant and my blood pressure is 88/60 and I am always dizzy and having palpitations now and then. I have fainted several times and am dizzy even when lying down. Is there anything I can do and ideas or suggestion would be welcome? I am seeing a gynae on Monday so hopefully she will be able to help but in the meantime and advice welcome.

Have you had your blood count checked recently? These are symptoms of anaemia, I'd guess your BP probably isn't the cause.

Hmm not sure but they took blood at the doctors today and said my gynae will have the results Monday - not sure what they were looking for however.

Mine was 90/60 when pregnant, I felt very dizzy and sick with it. Apparently it's normal

Make sure you eat plenty in the meantime so your blood sugar doesn't get too low.

PinkPussyCat · 21/05/2009 14:43

Did you mention your symptoms to them? It's likely they will have done a full blood count anyway though... Take it easy in the meantime though!

PinkPussyCat · 21/05/2009 14:44

Too many thoughs sorry!

I am the same at the moment - 7 wks pg and bp not quite as low as yours but i am still feeling dizzy and sometimes as if I will faint. I was the same during last 2 pgs, it is horrible. I never found anything to help but it did pass after the first trimester if that is any comfort.

Pink Yes I did but I kind of think they thought I was making a fuss - just being pregnant ifykwim - but I did faint while I was there .

@ making a fuss! Poor you. At least you proved yourself by fainting

If I were you I'd just have a quiet weekend and see what you're results are on monday. You might get started on iron tablets if haemoglobin is low. Good luck!

PinkPussyCat · 21/05/2009 14:49

your results

What is wrong with me today??

timmette · 21/05/2009 15:16

Thanks for all the help - I'm not the fainting type - and it's not fun. I hope it passes too - my sis in law who is a trainee doc has also suggested salty food like crisps.
There is so much on the internet about high blood pressure and very littl on low - I am neglected lol

What about some compression stockings? You could try flight socks to start with and if they help get some on prescription.

I have routinely low blood pressure and find that if I don't eat regularly, I feel faint. If I get up too quickly from bending over or from lying in bed, the same happens. Essentially I eat little and often to keep blood sugar levels in check and also never get up too quickly either. It was worse when I was pregnant and I craved salty foods even moe than I normaly do.

I had low BP and iron when I was pregnant. It was also a really hot summer. I found drinking a lot helped - not sure why - but definitely I felt worse if i got dehydrated. drank fruit smoothies if i got really dizzy - sugar and fluids together really helped
