Metallic taste in mouth - not pregnant - causes?

smurfgirl · 19/05/2009 17:59

I have a strong metallic taste in my mouth, what can cause that? Have had it for 24 hours now so pretty sure its not blood from a cut.

Def not preg.

bumpybecky · 19/05/2009 22:37

have you been eating pine nuts?

I read something earlier today about pine nuts causing an odd mettalic taste in the mouth. Will check internet history.....

bumpybecky · 19/05/2009 22:38

Bell's Palsy.

are you on iron tablets

giraffesCantRunA10k · 19/05/2009 22:40

any sleeping tablets? They always do that to me.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 19/05/2009 22:41

with me it's linked to migraine...

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/05/2009 22:41

Can be a sign that you're in ketosis

[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketosis here ]]

Which is often associated with low carbohydrate diets.

FrankMustard · 19/05/2009 22:41

hormones can do this - in the same way it happens when you're pregnant, sometimes hormonal changes during the month can cause it. I used to get it a lot mid-cycle.

steviesgirl · 19/05/2009 23:17

It could possibly be an amalgam filling leaking (if you have any).

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/05/2009 23:18

here try this instead!

smurfgirl · 20/05/2009 00:05

No to pine nuts, fillings, iron tablets or sleeping tablets. Am carb queen.

Have been on pill for a week so its probably hormonal.

bleeding gums? sore gums?

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2009 13:45

Do you have a mouth full of mercury fillings?

smurfgirl · 20/05/2009 15:38

Teeth are filling free and I went to the dentist recently and was fine.

I have this too, doc checked all my bloods which are fine, dentist checked mounth all fine. I then had lunch with an old friend who said she had the same thing plus sore roof of mouth and had eventually been referred to an ENT specialist who called it ......wait for it....sore mouth syndrome.....
Mine has gone off a bit, but I had it for weeks and weeks.

Cranberry · 21/05/2009 16:01

This is interesting. I've had a metallic/bitter taste in my mouth for 6 weeks plus sore parts on my gums and roof of mouth. Been to Dr's and Dentist and neither can see anything wrong so have been referred to an oral specialist just waiting for appointment, sounds like I might have 'sore mouth syndrome' or the official word ' we don't have a bloody clue '

YanknCock · 21/05/2009 16:10

Had a metallic taste in my mouth for 24 hours after consuming sundried tomato pesto....had any of that?
