Smelly Bits (ok ok smelly fanjo)

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:33

No discharge, a bit red but nothing major
No hurting on peeing

BUT

have been on antibiotics (first time in about 10 years) AND changed pill around a month ago and have had loads of breakthrough bleeding (like for weeks) which has meant I've needed to wear pads a lot which can make my fanjo a bit err less pleasant

I need quick fixes please because a) the smell is quite strong and b) it's slightly sore

(have access to lots of creams like timodine, canestan etc. as we have lots at home!)

Can you describe the smell?

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:36

I would if my nose wasn't quite blocked. Is strong though. Not sure I would say as strong as fishy but definitely ripe and slightly fishy

How often are you washing/bathing? And are you using soap?

Too much and the use of soap could be aggravating things.

If you're on antibiotics, always worth taking acidophilus too, to replace the good bacteria that your gut will need.

ronshar · 15/05/2009 22:37

Perhaps canestan as Antibiotics can cause thrush. Especially when on the pill.
Dont forget you are not covered by the pill when on Anti B's. You could end up with more than a sore Fanjo

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:38

no, am a no soap person, am always v careful with stuff like that

not sure about probiotics

thing is, would you need a discharge with thrust? because I don't seem to have one

paisleyleaf · 15/05/2009 22:39

probiotic drinks to top up you friendly bacteria again?
(the antibiotics will have killed bacteria)

neolara · 15/05/2009 22:39

Fishy smell can be a sign of bacterial vaginosis. If it is, your GP can sort it out easily.

girlandboy · 15/05/2009 22:39

If it's a bit fishy then I would have said it's Bacterial Vaginosis. However the cure for that is antibiotics! Usually metronidazole from the doctor.

liahgen · 15/05/2009 22:40

could it be this

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:41

thrush not thrush

yes thought about BV but hopefully the antibiotics would kill that anyway grrr

solidgoldSneezeLikeApig · 15/05/2009 22:41

Yup it's either BV or trichomonowhatsit. See your GP.

girlandboy · 15/05/2009 22:42

liahgen - I like the Wiki description of the "whiff test"

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:44

don't think I have discharge but I guess with breakthrough bleeding, maybe I've not noticed it

OP posts:
liahgen · 15/05/2009 22:44

yup, good old whiff test

hope you get it sorted, I used to suffer with /bv in my younger years, just kind of grew out of it. Hormones maybe.

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:45

am so fed up of GP grrr. Took me ages to get this appointment to get antibiotics for chest infection. The thought of trying to go back fills me with dread grrrrr (and huge impatience).

OP posts:
BettySwollux · 15/05/2009 22:47

Eeewww at the whiff test.
I though you should take probiotics before and after antibiotics, but not during, as they could cancel each other out or something .

AitchTwoOh · 15/05/2009 22:47

i think that the antibiotics are more likely to have caused bv than cured it, sadly. it's a bitch to get rid of once you've got it as well.

SmellySmellster · 15/05/2009 22:48

am still on antibiotics though so not sure I could have more anyway
