Neck/Shoulder pain now spread down one side of my body and affecting vision.......

I woke up yesterday morning with a terribly stiff neck/shoulder on my right side and the pain got worse throughout the day (not helped by the fact I'm a childminder so pick little children up and carry them on that side.

The pain (not terrible but annoying) spread a little by the end of the day and last night, I had the odd shooting pain on that side, going up my neck and to the top of my head (when looking down mainly - therefore I didn't do that! )

Well today it seems to have spread further and I've had it in my neck, further down my shoulder and in my groin (all the same side of my body) with a terrible headache which is getting worse and now I feel heavy on that side and my vision isn't quite the same through that eye (not bad enough I'm panicking or anything!)

It dawned on me last night that I'd had pins and needles in my right hand a day before all this started (not sure if connected?)

Anyway, anyone got any idea what this might be? Obviously I'll go to the Dr next week if it continues but I'm baffled and just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

TIA

I wouldn't leave it until next week TBH. I would be calling NHS direct now.

sounds like a trapped nerve, but the vision thing would worry me, as I wouldn't expect vision to be affected.

Tiggiwinkle · 15/05/2009 18:48

I really think you should get advice on this today rather than leave it till next week, with that collection of symptoms.

Ring NHS direct and they will advise you.

EvenBetaDad · 15/05/2009 18:50

Go A&E now this does not sound like something you should leave until tomororw morning never mind next week next. The blurred vision, terrible headache and spreading pain all the way down one side of your body is not a good sign.

I do not know what it is.

Is someone with you?

sounds to me like a trapped nerve; am emergency osteopath or physio can help. I woke up 2 years ago with a trapped nerve in my neck and it was absolute agony - I was literally weeping with the pain. I couldn't move my head or neck at all. Two sessions with the osteo sorted me out though. Good luck.

Go go go to a&E

NHS direct will give you the exact same advice.

Now shoo...

notevenamousie · 15/05/2009 18:55

It's probably an atypical migraine, but I agree you should be seen tonight not next week - phone your out of hours GP service, this evening.

YeahBut · 15/05/2009 18:55

Go to A&E NOW.

Tiggiwinkle · 15/05/2009 18:57

looneytune-are you going to get your some advice or preferably go to A&E?

looneytune · 15/05/2009 19:18

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I have my dh with me so not alone. I really didn't expect all the A&E stuff etc lol, I don't feel that it's THAT bad. One thing I've just thought of......I hit my head on the corner of a kitchen cupboard the other morning but I can't remember if this is the day before all this happened or after??? It's still tender to touch my head but there's no swelling or marks that I can see. The bump was on the front part on the right side of my head.

I thought maybe the vision thing was to do with the headache?? It's not that I can't see or anything, hard to put my finger on it but just doesn't seem 100% but I certainly don't feel I need to panic and go to A&E.

Sorry -but if you banged your head, even more reason to get checked out. Please get some advice - we can't really advise you, you need to see a doctor.

EvenBetaDad · 15/05/2009 21:37

3littlefrogs - that is what I was thinking too. A least her DH is with her.

looneytune · 16/05/2009 12:23

Sorry I didn't reply, I fell asleep! I'm much better today. Not painful, just more annoying than anything. It's moved across to my left side, in my hip and shoulder/neck so I think it's more nerve related.
