I know breast lumps are not always malignant, but what other causes for them are there?

I know someone who has just had a biopsy done following a mammogram recall and is waiting for the result

They are in their 50s, if that makes a difference

What's the process likely to be?

TIA

I'm 34 and I have a lump, i also had a scan mammogram and biopsy but mine turned out to be fine. I was so relived i never even asked what it was or what caused it. But i did alot of reading and it can be a build up of fatty tissue or a blocked duct. Apparently you are more at risk after the age of 35 and need to have a more thorough exam (mammogram)
But i was given this because it was actually on my 34th birthday, they did it to be safe.

If it is harmless she will be given the option to have it removed. I chose to leave mine as i really didn't fancy the lumpectomy tbh

Thankyou for replying and I'm glad you're ok

She's obviously really worried (as am I, I know her well)

And I think because they couldn't really give her any info on the day (ie just have to wait for biopsy result) it's that horrible 'purgatory' type feeling
