It souns like you might have a little fissure.

How are yor poos (if you don't mind me asking ) If they're firm and hard to pass that's why you've ended up with this.
Make sure you drink plenty and have a high fibre and varied diet to keep your stools soft and regular.

wilbur · 07/05/2009 10:38

Sounds like an anal fissure or poss v bad piles internally. You need to go to doc to check becaue if it's an anal fissure, you need prescription cream to mend it. I had one after dd was born and it turned into a nightmare. I would seriously recommend you catch it now before it gets worse.

PinkTulips · 07/05/2009 10:40

anal fissures by the sounds of it.

lots of fibre to soften yor poo will help enormously.

wilbur · 07/05/2009 10:44

Try Movicol, you can buy it over the counter although your chemist might have to order it in. It's a fibre-type stool softener and v effective - not like a laxative.

The cream I used was prescription only and it saved me from having to have an op. I think it is possible for fissures to heal with just being careful to get your poo soft, but if it gets any worse, do go to the doc. GPs have seen everything after all.

loopylou6 · 07/05/2009 15:47

anusol works wonders, it is a pile treatment but i always use it if i get a sore bum after a poo lol

candyfluff · 07/05/2009 18:07

thanks loopy do you have to put it inside ur bum or on the outside ?

I had an anal fissure for 5 months after having ds1 before I plucked up the courage to see the GP. Showing your bum to a GP really isn't as bad as the constant pain of a fissure. But, if you really don't want to do it, as far as I recall, I did not get prescribed any cream for the fissure, just lactulose to soften my stools (and lactulose can be bought without a prescription.

It sounds like wilbur had a worse fissure than me though, and who can say whether yours is as bad as mine and will go with lactulose, or more in line with wilbur's?

InternationalFlight · 07/05/2009 18:17

I shared this before, it's what my mum did when she was facing surgery for her fissure.

She got some witch hazel ointment in a blue tube from Boots (NOT witch doctor brand, the boots own - crucial difference I think, perfume or similar)

you dab your arse with wet cotton wool after a poo

DRY it with same

then apply witch hazel. It works really well and quite fast. I did it after similar issues after ds2 was born and it worked.

Important to DRY first. Leaving a damp arse is asking for trouble

InternationalFlight · 07/05/2009 18:18

The gp probably won't ask to have a look anyway!

InternationalFlight · 07/05/2009 18:20

Also doint squeezing exercises, a bit like pelvic floors, helps increase blood flow to the area aiding healing. Just pull up your bottom muscle and release it a few times.

lastly make a conscious effort to relax your jaw. Bizarrely when we are stressed our jaw tenses up without us noticing, and it is related to the bum, so your bum will be tense too. If you relax every so often and try to stay relaxed it will help.

loopylou6 · 07/05/2009 18:32

well my crack hurts round the rim () so i just put anusol just there, but it is designed to go 'uppay the bummay' too, it even comes with an applicator

candyfluff · 07/05/2009 18:48

yum thanks
gonna get some tomorrow and try it if not working then will go to gp
throbbing all the time [sore bum emoticon]
