how to get through achilles tendonitus?

Admittedly self-diagnosed but I think I've had this for years and years and not known what it was. In my 20 after it felt like my achilles tendons went ping I was advised to rest for 2 weeks. It worked then for 2 days and then I returned to stiff ankles, pain and shuffling along till it went away.

On Thursday out of the blue I woke up with a v. stiff ankle and my right tendon was painful to touch. If I am in flat shoes I can just about shuffle along. ibufropen seems to be the answer when I googled it but is there anything else I can do?

Also I was planning to go out cycling tomorrow with my dd. Doing 3-5 miles I would be made to do this, right?

am I the only person who suffers with problem ankles then?

I've got it too - mine was from wearing 'bad' shoes (though they were Russell & Bromley ballet pumps, cost over £100 and I had to throw em out!). It came on about Christmas and I went to the physio which was absolute agony. It got better and this week it came back. It's a nightmare - especially going up and down stairs.

You have big sympathy from me. I don't know what to do now - might try GP and get a referral - can they do an operation do you know?

When I googled it they said there was an operation but it didn't sound like it worked in most situations.

I've had to wear shoes with small heels even in the house and garden. Worse bit it when I take my dd to school it's uphill so all the good I get from keeping my foot up (sleeping) disappears in 5 mins.

What exercises were you given to do?

eeks! Don't self-diagnose! Get yourself checked with gp before deciding on an exercise plan yourself!
Good luck!

I've been 'pinging' my achilles tendons for 20+ years. It's only now I've goggled what was wrong.

Its the reason why I don't run, play tennis and If I dance I have to wear heels although I much prefer wearing flat shoes. So it's not that hard to self diagnose.
