Had what felt like a cough/cold for a few days, just feeling run down. Today though got mouth uclers (i never get these), stiff jaw, pain under ribs (more left than right) but painful enough to hurt when i move. Stomach is bloated, and feel ok, just tired and headachey. Seeems like abug to me, but not sure on rib pain. Is there some bug making the rounds?

Not sure, but the rib pain could be strain pain from coughing.

lisad123 · 30/04/2009 19:14

not been coughing much at all though, hurts let hell to move atm, tried to ring nhs direct but all calls have to be urgent, if sure if they would say this was.

I don't know, what sort of pain is it? Inside like an organ, or more skin/nerve type thing?

SlightlyMadSwineFlu · 30/04/2009 19:20

OK - random questions...

Have you ever suffered from coldsores in the past?

Have you been in contact with someone with coldsore recently?

The first exposure to a coldsore irus can be very fluey, with multiple mouth ulcers (they are actually coldsores in the mouth) and very swollen neck and abdo glands (which could relate to your jaw and rib pain).

lisad123 · 30/04/2009 19:22

i havent had cold sores for years and years. Feels more like a inner pain, like i have been kicked.

friend had cold sore last week though

Yup - that sounds like swollen abdominal glands to me.

My (very amateur) diagnosis is a viral infection of some description - it is usually viruses which kick of the abdo glands...wouldn't surprise me if it is actually the reactivation of the coldsore virus.

I was thinking shingles but hope it ain't.

lisad123 · 30/04/2009 19:31

thanks girls, i really didnt want to go to out of hours GP tonight. We have had enough of hospital. Seems so much worse tonight, ove the last 2 hours. I cant eat or drink it hurts too much. Going to take some paracetol and crawl into bed i think.

Dont you get spots with shingles? I hope its nothing more than a virus, more worried about DH than me.

Bonjela/Anbesol

Ibuprofen would be better if you have it/can tolerate it as it is an anti-inflammatory and will help with the glands.

try and avoid acidic foods and drinks. Youghurts and milk can be soothing

SlightlyMadSwineFlu · 30/04/2009 19:38

Shingles does tend to be a rash - typically on the torso - somes up as a cluster of chickenpox type blisters which merge into an evil and painful rashed rash.

Oh no

Hope you feel better soon, last thing you need right now x

kittybrown · 01/05/2009 11:07

We all had this over easter. Fluey symptoms then a stiff neck/jaw then a really bad stomach ache followed by D&V everyone in the family followed the same symptom path! It was horrid. I hope you feel better soon.

lisad123 · 01/05/2009 12:01

well GP thinks virus which has upset my tummy lining. (have a lot of trouble with my stomach including ulsers and gall bladder removed), so home with some tablets. She was shocked I was still bfing dd2, and asked why!!

OP posts:
BannedInternationalFlight · 01/05/2009 12:03

Oh poor you!

How old is dd2? You would think a GP would be in favour of extended bfing wouldn't you.

lisad123 · 01/05/2009 12:09

dd2 is 19months. stupid woman!

SlightlyMadSwineFlu · 01/05/2009 15:53

And of course the fact you are still bf is highly relevant to your medical condition in teh first place
