Can anyone help me cut down my alcohol intake safely?

I have posted on the other heavy drinking thread but wanted quite specific advice on cutting down to zero. At the moment I am easily drinking one bottle of wine a night and if I try to stop completely (or have a day off) I feel terrible, very anxious etc - so the day after I tend to drink, or the urge takes over to drink. I want to safely cut down to nothing so how should I do this? I feel I am alcohol dependant and need to cut down ina specific manner, but I just do not know how much to reduce it by and over what time period. Does anyone know?

Hello MogDog

It would be probably be best to speak to your doctor he should be able to refer you on for one to one counselling or support from someone who knows what they are doing.

I wish you all the best

There are people on here who have successfully cut down before stopping completely. It may help to see your doc just in case of the physical side of things. A vit B complex may help. It certainly won't do any harm.

I've just been to the smoking clinic, and it's made me worse than I thought and I am smoking again. The smoking woman said I was a bit odd because usually when people start smoking again they take it up as they did before, but that's not what's happened. I am a non-smoking smoker, or a smoking non-smoker. The equivilent of a dry drunk I suppose.

If you are able to ride through the hangover without any other ill effects, and remember that it is the alcohol causing the anxiety and crap feelings, it may be easier to have another day with not much to drink.
