kidney pain after passing a stone, how long should this last?

Hi, I was admitted to hospital last week with horrendous kidney pain and passing blood etc. Diagnosed with kidney stones and eventually passed it. That was last Tuesday.

The thing is, whilst the acute 'I am dying' pain has gone it is still really tender and sore.

I have been taking tramadol and would like to stop now as am paranoid about taking too many pills etc, but they seem to be the only thing to make it stop hurting, they also knock me out.

Does anyone have experience of this?

Thanks in advance.

OUCH! Passing a stone through such a small tube is extremely painful, so you are fogiven for requiring stong analgesia such as Tramadol. Yes the Tramadol do make you woozy, but you oviously still need it. What your body and especially your urethra has gone through is traumatic and will have bruised and swollen you so this will take a bit of time to settle. You will not take 'too many' tablets provided to stick with the dose you've been prescribed. If in any doubt go and see your GP - they may be able to prescribe you something that you can alternate with the tramadol so you're not as drowsy. Maybe take the tramadol at night and paracetamol during the day. I'm no Dr, so do what your GP or consultant has instructed you to do. You may also want to try drinking cranberry juice - it's good for cystitis so may be of benefit to you!

Thanks divedaisy, your right. I shall give it another couple of days and then head back to the GP.

Give yourself time! Plenty of olde fashioned TLC (ie tender loving care) is what's needed! Get well soon.
