Can anyone tell me about colposcopies?

Last month I heard that my repeat smear results were abnormal and I have been given a colposcopy appointment. Is there anyone around who can talk me through the process? I am unsure if I will receive any treatment or whether it is just a more detailed smear.

Doctor will put vinegar (really ) on your cervix and see where abnormal cells are.

Then he will cut off little bits, like nail clippings, from the affected areas. This does not hurt AT ALL. He will send these to biopsy, results of which will tell him the degree of dysplasia (CIN II, CIN III, etc).

Yes, doesn't hurt, might be a bit uncomfortable but IMO no more so than a smear. I had some laser treatment done at the same time, but don't know if this is normal

Sorry, should be "no, it doesn't hurt"

did they not send a leaflet with your appointment. Depending on if they are doing a look or a full treatment on the day, it really depends on how long you'll be there. Take some boiled sweets to suck. Good luck
