kidney pain, stones?? owww!

Hi I have been on antibiotics all week for a kidney infection. The pain in my left side just would not go and last night I did actually think I was having a heart attack! (I know I sound dramatic but it bloody hurt)Went back to the doctor today who said he suspects kidney stones and would arrange for a scan asap, and to go to A&E if pain gets that bad again.

The thing is the pain although where my kidney was dreadful it went as high as my breasts and also felt a little like heartburn. Would kidney stones cause the pain to be that high up does anyone know?

I had a kidney stone and it was a very close run thing as to whether the transition stage of childbirth was more or less painful than the stone (and I was on an oxytocin drip which made the contractions extra nasty).

It hurt all down the left side of my body from ribs to groin and felt sharp and stabbing. I was twisting and turning uncontrollably trying to instinctively find a less painful position but couldn't. It got so bad I started throwing up, gnawing on my hand and moaning out loud.

Kidney pain is usually lower down the body, sometimes feels like backache. You may be holding yourself so tense that you are getting referred pain in other bits of your body, you may have heart burn! Gall stones may cause pain higher up the body and more on the right hand side.

Definitely go to A&E if it gets bad.

Thank you RandA for your reply. The pain is definitely round the kidney area as when the doctor prodded around it today I nearly shot through the ceiling. Feels very bruised.

when I had stones it felt like a claw was crushing my kidney. It hurt as badly as my labour pains.
