I feel like crap for a good few days now, it used to be one day I'd feel awful then slowly get better
this sicky, hot crampy feeling now lasts for days and days and before it all starts I get the stinging in one eye headache

have you tried a Mooncup? I started using mine a few months after I turned 40, and my periods seem to be much more manageable.

Sorry hit send before I finished - Mooncups seem to help with the crampyness (they don't dry you out like tampons) and my period is definitely shorter now.
However, it might not help if you are peri-menopausal...

Yes mine got worse after 40. My last baby was born at 39 and they got heavier and heavier. A Mirena coil solved it and saved me from a hysterectomy.

Yes. I call them my old lady periods. I am nearly 42 and had my youngest 15 mths ago. I had years on the pill so didnt really have proper ones.

I am staying off the pill incase I decide to have DC5. I am paying for it with horrible old lady periods

hello, I've gone completely the other way. I'm 41 and for the last year and a bit my periods have been incredibly erratic. They appear every 2 or 3 months.
This is a bummer as I'm currently ttc and waiting to start clomid. Have just been prescribed provera to bring on a period. Still waiting!
The upside is that after DD (now 4) I suffered a prolapse uterus and now cannot keep tampons in and I REALLY hate using towels and so only having occasional periods is better in those terms
