My dh gave up smoking two months ago, after smoking 20+ fags for about 15years. Whilst Im really proud of him for giving up, I don't know how much longer I can cope with his moodiness as a result of it. He is not the mildest of people at the best of times, but since giving up stopping with the aid of champix tablets he was coping quite well. The problem has started since he stopped taking the tablets, he is almost constantly irratated and angry. I almost wish he would start smoking again . Has anyone else taken these pills and felt similiar after finishing them?? Please give me some ray of hope that things will improve.

why did he stop taking the tablets? It sounds like he needs a gradual withdrawal, is he getting any help from the smoking cessation service? Local pharmacy?

Sounds grim for you both, hope you can hang in there.

I don't know what the tablets are - I assume some sort of nicotine substitute? If so, he needs to keep going with them and wean himself off gradually. Two months isn't long after 15 years of heavy smoking - if he needs the nicotine substitute for a while longer, then that's fair enough. The danger is that otherwise he'll feel so shite he'll start smoking again.

Ex-DH is still on the gum 8 months after giving up - but is reducing it gradually.

i'd get him to see a doctor, maybe he'd need some sort of nrt to tide him over now he's stopped the drug.

i can sympathise as i'm two weeks into patches and first week was like having really bad pmt.
