Just had a positive test for it..they said its the secondary one so i've had it before, i vaguely remember going to doctors as was very saw but he said it wasn't an STI, seems he was wrong.

Anyway, if someone can answer my questions, that'd be fab-namechange if need beXmas Smile

how often do outbreaks happen? How do people generally tend to take it when you tell them? Does that mean no sex without condom ever again? What if i want to ttc? How do i tell my OH? Can my kids catch it from me if they use the same towel/flannel etc?

TIA for any answers Xmas Smile

thank you for the reply, i really appreciate it-it was diagnosed via the gum clinic..my GP said it was a skin infection but i had had pain in my legs and buttocks for the first time and decided i wanted a second opinion. They have told me to go in for a chat when i have chance. I'm not sure who i caught it off but have an idea as there was only once i didn't use protection a few years ago, in fact it was over within seconds, so i guess i was unlucky.

I'm also worried that oh has caught it, after this last time, he had flu like symptoms and achey buttocks and legs also but nothing has appeared on his genitals or mouth...I told him this afternoon and he seems to be okay with it, although he did know it was a possibility as he knew i was going to the clinic.

Guess i just need to learn to live with it, and try to control it if i have another outbreak, I do feel rally crap about it though

i don't think i caught it off OH. When they called from the clinic they said that it was a secondary infection or something, so i must have already had it some point.

I got this too - have only ever had two outbreaks. It's nothing to be ashamed of - just a bit of bad luck.

The things I was told to look out for (in terms of sparking of a recurrence) were getting run down and stressed and sunbathing in the nude!

This is a name change (because of other posts, not this - I don't give a toss who knows really, that's how 'bovvered' I am!) - I think you've just got to kit yourself out with all the information you can and not beat yourself up.

notapparent · 09/04/2009 21:09

P.S. DP and I have never used condoms. I was also v worried when pg with dd but nowt occurred.

FeelingDirty · 09/04/2009 23:14

thanks notapparant-I have been using a sunbed too, which probably hasn't helped. Its good to know other people have it, well, kind of iyswimXmas Smile

I was totally appalled when I got it but seriously, it hasn't been a big deal for me. I realise I am lucky having only had two episodes, but I think you've just got to get over the stigma - there are far worse thing you could have, lets face it! Plus, anything that gets you off the sunbeds has to be a bonus, surely?! They're not exactly de rigeur these days dontcha know!

As my name change says, me too!
I caught it about 14 years ago from an Ex bf who shagged about whilst on a training course. Nice guy
Anyway I have had lots of outbreaks over time. Have told new boyfriends when things got serious enough to not use condoms or when needed because of an outbreak. Never been dumped because of this, but always found it very
Didn't want it on my medical records so never told GP or hospital when pg. Have 2 dc, both born vaginally and both without any problems. A few years later had a smear which detected herpes. No idea how but unfortunately it is now on my records. Hope I never need to apply for life insurance etc again as I remember having que.s about STI on them.
Anyway I also use tea tree or lavender oil (mainly in the bath) or if not salt water. I know if I get tired or stressed this triggers them. Also having a really ummmm rough session
I have a couple of friends I know suffer too - they say something like 25% of population are carriers. Just most of us are too embarrassed to talk about it.
Hope some of this helps.
Feel free to post any questions you have from an old 'pro' (hmm wish I could say that about something better), although I have relatives staying so may not get online for a few days.
Happy Easter and don't worry about it - another trigger!
