strange patches in armpits

I've got 3 patches just below my armpits that look like bruises. They are on both sides and in identical places. What are they? Could they be where my glands are and if so should i see my doctor?

None of the above. They do look like cafe au lait spots but odd that they are in same place on both sides

I have pale brown slightly velvety textrued markes under my arms and on my rib cage under my bust. In my case its just a symptom of PCOS.

numptysmummy · 06/04/2009 13:42

Completly flat. No PCOS that i'm aware of.

sounds very like acanthosis nigricans. often related to diabetes/insulin resistance - whch is why you get it in PCOS. however need to see GP for medical work up to work out cause. it can just happen (called idiopathic) BUT you need to exclude other stuff first

Hmm,had bloods done a couple of wks ago to test for anaemia and check thyroid function as vv tired but they both came back normal. Would it need to be a specific blood test?

you def need to get your blood sugar tested.

if you have been tired, and this is quite new, and developed this (if that is what it is, as obviously can't see) and a full set of bloods are normal then to be honest, I would refer you to an endocrinologist. (hormone dr)

don't let the Gp say its nothing! (it's not very common so he/she may not know you need referring if no cause is found)

Thinling about it - that would explain peeing llike a pregnant person too, wouldn't it?

yes!
surprised they didn't test for it.
they can do a one off blood pin prick for glucose in the surgery to make sure its not dangerously high.

you'll need to do a fasting one for a proper confirmation.

to be honest i would try and get an appt with dr this afternoon - if that fails the nurse could do a finger prick blood test to make sure your sugar isn't too high. if you can't get an appt speak to doc on phone and say - i've been v tired, am peeing loads and thirsty, and now have developed what looks like acanthosis nigricans - can i have a blood test today and am sure they will oblige.

of course it might not be this but need to rule it out.

keep us posted!
