Blood in husband's semen

There was blood in my husband's semen this morning and he's now wondering whether to go to the doctor.

This happened about a year ago when we were planning our wedding and he was stressed. The doctor said it's caused by inflammation and if it didn't improve within 4 days go back. It improved so that was the end of it.

We're wondering whether this can be caused by stress (his former FIL is about to die and we're worrying what to tell our DS).

Does anybody have any experience/knowledge of this?

Definitely go back and request further investigation/treatment. He can't go through life like this.

blood coming from anywhere there should not be blood needs sorting out, even if he is sure it is benign and stress related, it needs a doctor to confirm that.

Yeah that's what I think.

Last time the doctor was very much 'it's nothing to worry about and quite normal as long as it doesn't happen for more then 4 days' but I'd rather know for sure. I suspect she'll tell him to go away and come back in a few days though.

He needs to be tested at some point for something genetical that I have before we start TTC though so he could kill two birds with one stone and feel less 'told off' by her if she does tell him to go away and come back again.

I think it's slightly more stressful as his former FIL has prostrate cancer (or rather that's how it started) and his first wife died of breast cancer. Makes you think the worst!

yes, i understand the thinking the worst thing, but to be blunt, if there is something sinister, it needs to be diagnosed and treated sooner rather than later

Indeed. I'll hassle him to book an appointment as he'll be off next week.

good luck, sure it will turn out to be nothing.

could be epididimorchitus (sp) ds had this, it's infection of the epididimus, the teeny tiny but very long tubes that mature the semen... can get painful just above the testicles - in poor little ds his 'bits' swelled to 3 times their normal size and were very inflamed...

Hope DH ok

it usually is innocent and common so try not to worry, although it is worth visiting a GP.

this info may help

oh just realised this is the medical link, rather than patient one BUT hopefully will reassure you that most cases are harmless. But needs to be seen to rule out other causes.
