little white bumps on tops of ears

Both my sons (but not my dd) have tiny white bumps all over the tops of their ear on the outer rim.
Could this be a sun rash? They both have short hair, but dd's is over her ears.
It doesn't look like molloscum which they've both had ages ago and they have no other symptoms.
I've googled, but nothing comes up that fits and it doesn't seem to warrant a visit to the doctors, but I'd like to know what it is.

Any ideas?

My dp has a little white bump on one ear - it looks like a whitehead tbh but he was born with it. He says it's a bit of displaced cartilige (sp) and it's harmless.

It doesn't sound like what your LOs have though.

My boys get this and it was only after having it more than once and numerous trips to various gps not knowing what it was, turns out they get it with tonsillitis!

My boys are rarely ill with tonsillitis and this is always the first sign of the virus, infact one of them developed it again two days ago.

Most of the time they only get a few 'lumps' but twice they have had it really bad and the tops of their ears have been covered.

Thank you! My boys have never had tonsillitus, but their best friend has it at the moment so perhaps that's it?
I think I may take the preschool ds to the drs then and see what they say.

Just wondered how you got on? My DS1 had these white spots on his ear (for the first time ever) a week ago and now has a chest infection. Weird .......
