Posted on here last week about my dodgy sore, red eyes. I thought it was my contact lenses causing the problem and stopped wearning and purchased a pair of glasses. Saw an optician yesterday who said the contact lenses aren't the problem, it's my eyes. She looked at them with some high tech machinery and said that I have soreness behind the cornea and they look very dry. She kept asking if I was on any medication (I'm not) whether I'd changed my make-up, face cream etc (I haven't). She recommended I get some eye antibiotic eye drops from a pharmacy (which I'd already tried and hadnt worked)have been taking them and they seem to make my eyes worse if that's possible, they feel very stingy and burning. Have appointment with the optician again for tomorrow but I am now out of my mind with worry. It's been six weeks and my eyes don't seem to be improving and eye drops aren't helping. Have been wearing my glasses but again this seems to make the problem worse

Go to an A & E eye clinic on Monday and get them seen by an opthamologist. You probably need stronger anti-bs and ?steroid to reduce inflammation and infection. Then false tears to keep them well.

I've always had problems with sore and teary eyes. They got really bad after my DS1 was born and I ended up referred to the eye department at the local hospital. They did lots and lots of tests, and tried all sorts of different things such as antibiotics. Finally they diagnosed perennial rhinitis, or something like that. It basically means I have allergic eyes. I have (fairly ordinary) eye drops on prescription to use up to four times a day. Something is in pollen production today, though, as my eyes are as miserable as sin. I've had a free periods when I haven't needed the eye drops but not for a few years.

My eyes are allergic to some pollen, perfume, cigarette smoke, most cats and dogs, don't like dust ... They're rubbish, basically and I can't wear mascara.
