Dh had a small opp yesterday to repair the cartilage in his knee by key hole surgery, it was a day surgery and they told him he would be able to walk straight away, rest for the rest of the day and start moving around more today.

I was up all night with dd2 (she was ill) and i had 1 hours sleep, dh has been in bed all day apart for 1 hour when i had to pop out, he keeps coming down, says what a mess the house is and then goes back to bed. I'm trying to keep the kids busy whilst trying to stay awake and all he does is moan at me and lie in bed. He won't take his pain killers as they make him feel ill. Maybe i should be giving him more sympathy?

Ok - my dh and several friends have had the same surgery - it;s painful (in some cases, really painful) and will take a good few days/week or so to recover from. By 'start moving around' they mean to aid recovery, not that he will be just as normal. He needs to get different pain killers quickly (out of hours GP) or just dual dose with paracetamol and ibuprofen if he doesn't want to take his. Pain slows up recovery. As to your patience, I agree that you need sleep too - tell him to dose, wait for an hour then go to bed for a bit but do expect him to be an invalid for a bit - he is. good luck x
