Surely I dont have to give up sex to cheer up? that seems too much to ask.

Have you just started them?

DH found it, err difficult at first, but is fine now.

magnolia74 · 28/03/2009 15:48

Dh is on Fluoxetine and its the same for him
will watch this thread

padboz · 28/03/2009 15:50

Ive been on it for 4 days. My sex life is (or was) one of the few things that wasn't wrong with me!

DH is on a diff one now, takes a while to find something to suit i think.

padboz · 28/03/2009 15:52

Might have to try something else then. I'm seem to be doing the whole side effect thing in a big way - yawning every few seconds, waking up at 2 in the morning and not being able to drop off again, thirsty and worst of all dreadful shaky hands and wobbly legs.

No you need to give it a few moths, 4 days isn't long enough to gauge how it will affect you long term

RidiculousCrush · 28/03/2009 16:00

You need to give it a couple of weeks, then the side effects vanish.

RockinSockBunnies · 28/03/2009 16:03

I had the same problem the entire time I took paroxetine (same family of SSRIs). It took ages and ages to orgasm, if it happened at all.

I swapped to fluoxetine (Prozac) and was fine.

coldupnorth · 28/03/2009 16:03

No don't give up yet. It was my savation last year.
As for the sex thing. The fact I'm more chilled and relaxed has actually helped my love life. But D3 is right you need to allow time for it to settle down - atleast 2/3 months I would say.

Threadworm · 28/03/2009 16:22

Side effects in general take a couple of weeks to settle down. But the loss of orgasm thing might be a long-term side effect. If so, it might be worth swapping to another AD. Citalopram didn't interfere with my orgasm at all but seroxat does.

It varies between people. There will be an AD without this troublesome effect. Or the efeect might disappear as you settle into the drug.

padboz · 28/03/2009 22:37

thanks for your replies threadworm - do you know if that means that seroxat will affect me in this way?

While I'm here - I had a reasonably good day today, despite the OP, my first for as long as I can remember. Is that the drug (after 4 days) or was it just a good day? I certainly felt less obsessive about cleanliness which has dragged me down terribly for years.

I'm afraid I don't know padboz. I know that it causes that prob in quite a lot of people and in any case isn't the AD of first resort. Talk to doc about alternatives -- they will take the no-orgasm side effect seriously (unless they are a crap GP).

Glad you had a good day. It could be the pills kicking in. It is always hard to tell.
