Excruciating thumb nail-bed pain!

Anyone ever had this? its really odd (and ruddy painful) its only if I tap/bang my right thumb nail against something, even gently, and then I get this throbbing pain that I can only describe as excruciating (prob spelt that wrong). The throbbing can last 10 minutes with me hopping round holding my thumb and swearing.
Am avoiding Gp as have images of long needles and more pain, am such a wuss!

I have the same excruciating problem. Can anyone help us. I have had this pain in my thumb and nail bed for for about 4 - 5 years. It is getting worse.

Thanks for posting arabianhorse _ was starting to think I was the only one to ever have this! like yours, mine is also getting worse (but looks 100% normal).
