Massive ouchy bruise on my hip/thigh

It's about 20cms long and 8cm wide with a deep scratch running down the middle. It happened 8 days ago and was at first bright purple then went browny pink but has stayed like that.

Now today a random bruise has just appeared in a line down my thigh from it and it feels like there's a hardened vein under it.

Am I being silly or do I need to get it looked at?

if you're worried see your gp. what do you think might have happened? bruises can drain downwards.

Thanks. I'm in a panicked mood anyway and thinking deep vein thrombosis. But surely if it was I wouldn't be here typing away.
