Still bleeding 3 months after delivery . . . any advice?

Im seeing a doctor tomorrow (for the umpteenth time) but I was wondering if any body had experienced this or had advice on this?

its a little complicated because it has sort of just gone on and on with other added problems but Ill try and explain.

I bled as expected after the delivery, and it started to taper off. It had almost disapeared within about 3 weeks, and I had a few days when I didn't bleed at all. So I thought this was the end.

In between this about a week after the birth I discovered that the majority of the blood was actually from my urethra rather than my vagina. I felt like I was leaking urine when I coughed and sneezed but it was actually blood. Saw the docs many times had antibiotics ect (they reckoned it was trauma from the cataheter) and this problem seems to have gone now.

However, by the time THIS bleeding had stopped I was bleeding again from my vagina. at first I assumed it was a period as it was around 4 weeks after delivery.

I have been bleeding ever since. Every day. Im in a lot of pain in my womb and back and feel shakey and dizzy. I also feel exhausted. And its not the same exhaustion that comes from being up all night with baby, as I get plenty of sleep now. Just feel fatigued all day.

The bleeding has been a variety of flows and shades. Every time it starts going brown I think "yes! its over!" but before it stops its bright red again. Its now almost black and like tar.

I keep trying to get medical help but I guess im just not headstrong enough. THey always manage to fob me off with "take some paracetomal and if its not gone in 2 weeks come back" but then they say the exact same thing two weeks later.

I tried to bring this up at my 8 week check up but he just nodded and sent me to do babys jabs, and that was it. This will be the 4th time back at the doctors and I just want some advice over whether I should push this and make them take me seriously, or whether I am fretting over nothing.

They have done no checks on me apart from feeling my tummy and this was 4 weeks ago.

Ive been outright refused a smear and have not really been checked out completely. I dont want to appear forceful for the doctors but am I right to actually want to sort this problem out rather than just feeding myself with pain relief? The pain really is quite bad.

Any ideas on how to approach this and what I should expect and ask for? I have been bleeding constantly for nearly 3 months now with only a short break less than a week during the first 4 weeks.

help/advice would be great

And sorry for being so GRAPHIC!!!

I did bleed for 16 weeks after having ds. I mentioned it as dr's a few times as I honestly hadn't expected it.

I don't know if it is at all connected but I did bleed badly after birth (was in notes at about 650 ml but I cleaned up the shark attack bath and floor without telling anyone as I didn't know it wasn't normal ).

I never got beyond being told this is normal for some people but I have to say I didn't feel ill with it like you. I did end up on iron tablets despite having really good levels at the end of pregnancy. I have to admit I was exhausted and weak but definately didn't have any pain with it.

I honestly felt like it would never stop but eventually it did. However, if this is really giving you cause for concern I would definately go back and stress you are worried about how ill you feel not just the fact that you are still bleeding. Hope you are feeling better soon.
