have not given ds, 14 mths egg yet, due to fh of allergies, excema, asthma etc, plus we don't really eat them ourselves anyway. didn't know that mmr contains egg, so should he have tried it for any reaction before giving the vaccine??

My ds has an egg allergy, but we have no fh of allergies (although he did have excema) and the reaction is more or less instantaneous. When he got his mmr at 13mths we went to our paediatric department at the local hospital and they administered the mmr. It is actually very far removed from actual egg, and extremely unlikely to cause a reaction. They simply gave him the vaccine and monitored him for an hour, while he played with some toys, and he was absolutely fine. Maybe this scenario would put your mind at rest?

Don't worry too much. The first MMR should be given by a GP, who should wait with you for several minutes in case of an allergic reaction, so if a reaction occurs he or she is on hand with the correct treatment.

thanks for quick replies; was looking on the internet about the usual mmr worries, when came across info about mmr and egg allergy. seems as though now it is thought safe to give mmr even to children with a genuine egg allergy. think i will probably make sure he is observed for a while afterwards just to be on the safe side.
