picked up by a visit to his new dentist. he has a dark spot on his gum where he had a tooth extracted years ago. he'd never even noticed it. His dentist has referred him to oral surgeon at the hospital and the appointment has come through really quickly.
being a mad paranoid nurse I'm a bit worried (although haven't told DH I am).
any ideas what it could be? and I know aanyone will say they can't diagnose without seeing and that would be inappropriate and unprofessional etc etc but......

have googled. could be (and am hoping) is an amalgam tattoo, not the other.

It really is most likely to be an amalgam tattoo. A small piece of amalgam from the tooth being extracted can fall into the socket during the extraction and cause this appearance once it's healed.

Just wanted to say not to be alarmed at the speed your DH got his appt. My DH has a non-urgent arm problem and was surprised at how quickly his appt with the consultant came through and also how soon he'll have his operation.
