That sums it up really. I've been feeling really run down, flu like symptoms... chills, sweats, some breathing issues early on, nausea, vomiting... Nausea & vomiting still going on. Last night my hands and feet were itching like crazy and this morning I have a rash all over. What on earth is going on? I don't think I've been this unwell in ages. Only have enough energy to make the school runs and then spend the rest of the day on the sofa. Anyone had anything similar and how long did it take to run the course? Trying for a gp appt today as the rash is slightly scaring me...

My friend had your symptoms last week and was diagnosed with Scarlett Fever. A course of AB's sorted her out within a week. So keep trying for that gp appointment.

Hope you feel better soon.

thanks for that hippi. have an appt for 10:15 this morning, so will hopefully find out something. I need to shift this sickness as I feel so crap.

Is the rash rough to the touch? Scarlet fever rash feels like sandpaper.

Make sure you get ABs if there is any chance it is that, as it can have long term complications if untreated.

MommyUpNorth · 11/03/2009 09:50

No, it's not rough to the touch. It's flat on the skin (not sure how to explain as I've never really had a rash before) and it's very red. It was spotty but now it's really red and sort of joining up together so not only feels like sunburn, but looks like it in places... very tingly.

Scarlet fever can look like sunburn...the other sign of it is a white coated tongue which changes over a few days to a very red one, with dark red bits showing through (like a strawberry!)

Let us know how you get on won't you?

Does the rash disappear if you press a glass on it? If the rash does NOT disappear, please seek medical help quickly.

Just got back from the gp, and was told it's probably a virus. He prescribed some tablets to help with the nausea and told me to come back on Friday if still not better. Really not looking forward to any more days with this.

Sorry molly, should have mentioned that yes it does disappear when I put a glass over it.

My DH and DCs get a post viral rash that is joined up and raised now and then. Our GP said quite often the rash comes at the end of an illness as the body gets it all out of the system.
With the DCs I give them piriton and it goes down.

MommyUpNorth · 11/03/2009 13:04

Thanks Katisha, that does sound promising (fingers crossed).

Glad it's nowt serious Sorry you're feeling so poorly though.
It's just that the meninigitis rash is flat (not bumpy) so was just making sure....
