Anyone know anything about CEA blood test to check success of chemo?

Mum (who has advanced bowel cancer) has just had some good news - her 'CEA levels' are down to 7 after 4 cycles of chemo. As far as I understand, this is still higher than normal, but way down on what they were before she started.

Does anyone have any further info on this test - they also call it a 'tumour marker'?
TIA

have a look on the cancerbacup website often a help but it sounds like she is responding to treatment

Sorry to hear about your mum. I have advanced colon cancer too.

I find wikipedia another good source of informationr. If you scroll down this page to "tumour markers", you can see the reference level for a non-smoker under 70 is 3.6.

You can read more about the test here.

Thanks ThingOne - that's very useful. I hope you're feeling well at the moment.
