Mirena coil to blame, or something else? Bit long I'm afraid.

I'm about 18 months into 2nd mirena coil. I had no problems with the 1st, but this time have noticed some problems.

Physically: long bouts of low level period pain - crampy and sharp, for about 5-10 days at a time, then short period of about 3 days. Feel very tired and slightly coldy for a couple of days during this time - achy, sore throat, but nothing more ever comes of it. 10-14 days then the pattern is repeated. I've kept a diary and it has been like this for about 6 months. Also HUNGRY all through this - almost to the point of wanting to binge eat - shove food down, then feel rather sick, although never am.

Mentally: During the run up I'm very emotional - short tempered, snappy, prone to tears and feel very down. There's no sunny side and I feel really "put upon", and can't shrug off the feeling of weight upon my shoulders. All the time - don't really feel like sex although enjoy it when it happens - and from this arises difficulties with DH who is hugely understanding and sensitive but I can't explain myself very well and it has been hard on him and therefore me.

I've a doctor's appt this week, and will obviously explain all this, but is it too simple to blame it all on the Mirena, or do you think there's something else going on. Also, once it's out, is an ordinary coil a good idea, (I'm not doing the Pill again). I have read the other threads on the Mirena and some of the things certainly apply, but I just wondered if I was being too fixated on it being the cause of all my problems and missing something obvious.

All advice welcome!

You might find that if you have the mirena out, you will feel nothing but relief. I had mine in for about 18 months and had similar symptoms, pmt all the time really and felt much better when it was taken out. Have a copper coil in now which also has its drawbacks but no hormones.

How long after you had it out before you began to feel normal (if there is such a thing?) Days, weeks.....and can you have the copper one in fairly quickly afterwards.
