I have always suffered with pmt, but since my 2 miscarriages a year ago and then staying off the pill for a 5 month period it has got much worse. I am now back on microgynon, but the pmt is still horrific. Its about a week before and stays until the 2nd day of my period. I don't want to resort to antidepressants, does anyone know of a really good natural solution. I become truly evil every month, and after the last batch (which ended after a week of misery, yesterday) I realise it can't go on, I almost hit my hubby yesterday, and my daughter looks fed up with my wild moods swings. please help

take three packs of pill at a time - period will only come every ten weeks

beanie35 · 08/03/2009 17:19

i did try that before, but found i was almost suicidal by the end of 10 weeks!

I found acupuncture a life and marriage saver.

beanie35 · 08/03/2009 17:29

Thanks Buda. That had crossed my mind, also wondered about reflexology.

What about is it evening primrose oil? I'm sure if you dig around you'll find out what vitamins etc will help. Or is it starflower, I really can't remember!

Really sorry and very sympathetic - know just how you feel. It's horrible. In the end I decided that shouting and snapping at everyone was unfair on the children, so I'm afraid I took the Prozac route. Has helped a lot. The potential to be an evil cow is still there, but a bit more measured.

cocolepew · 08/03/2009 17:35

A highish dose of fish oils really helped me, it will take a couple of weeks to work though. Jan De Vries does a 'Womans Essence' you put the drops in water and sip it during the day, these both have helped.

cocolepew · 08/03/2009 17:37

If you go on the remedy chooser on this site you can type in your moods and they will make a flower essence up for you. It really does work.

evening primrose really helped me (took a couple of months to kick in)

and a friend of mine found acupuncture good.
(again a you need a good few sessions)

I need to buy some more as now periods have started again I am a bit of a nightmare once again

I read a couple of anger management stuff as well and some of those technics have helped.

Also being aware as to when I would get my period so I could remind myself that if I got cross that it may be PMT making me overreact.

I think your DH will appreciate efforts made as it must be horrible for them

noonki · 08/03/2009 17:40

meant to say good luck it's horrible isn't it. I always feel a right cow afterwards.

cocolepew · 08/03/2009 17:41

Holland And Barratt do a 'Womans Health Formula' they are tablets with vitamins etc in it. A lot of times PMT is caused by lack of minerals.

bottersnike · 08/03/2009 17:46

I've just (in the last couple of months) started taking Magnesium OK, and so far my PMT has been much better. It's been combined with increased (i.e. actually doing some!) exercise, so not sure how much of feeling better is down to the pills, but they have a good balance in them, so might be worth a try.

PrettySprinkles · 12/03/2009 08:57

I had bad PMT after a miscarriage and took Agnus Castus. I was always a bit sceptic about herbal stuff but it brightened my mood and seemed to level me out.
