any optometrists/opticians about wish to advise?

my dm has failed 2 field tests in a month and has been referred for a second opinion?

any words of wisdom.
she had an aunt with glaucoma btw.

her vision is fine and she only wear glasses for reading.

There are lots of reasons to fail a field test.Glaucoma is one but I would expect there to be other signs which the optometrist would have mentioned.

If it is repeatable(checked twice like your dm) we refer to the ophthalmologist.Sometimes it turns out to not be a problem just the test itself but the optometrist has a duty of care to their patient to refer on.

The visual field basically reflects the pathway from the eye to the brain and a defect can indicate a problem anywhere along the pathway.We look at the pattern of lights missed and see if they relate to where.

If the optometrist was particularly worried by the specific pattern of missed lights they would have referred your mum urgently.You could get your mum to ask for a copy of the referral letter or ask her GP who the referral normally goes through.

Sorry can't be more specific - but there are lots of different reasons.

i thought it was a long shot - it wasnt an urgent referral 4 to 6 months she was told
