I can't remember if I had stomach pains but I definitely got black poo!

If you can, take Floradix (sold in chemists and in the pharmacy part of Sainsbury). It's a medicine that does the same but in my experience, much better! Also, drink orange juice with your meals as it helps you absorb iron.

Yes,its a known side efffect, are you on a high dose? I looked at lots of linked stuff and supposedly you should gradually build up dose strength but many GP's / MW's seem to skip it.

Had awful nausea when I was on those iron tabs ... and doctor said to me that it was a side effect of the tablets.

Took Floradix, had some dried apricots every day and ate liver (soak it in milk and remove skin).

I hate them they make me sick! I find ones called Ferrum (I think) are a bit better, they are a different salt, are chewable and vanilla. And according to my pharmacist, if you can't take them on an empty stomach, take them before meals but try to avoid dairy and tea, and eat some fruit after taking them. (And make me go for a blood test...)

I think iron tabs can make you constipated....dont know about stomach pains though. Maybe speak to whoever told you to take them about dosage etc.

I get stomach pains on ferrous sulphate as well as constipation. My GP prescribes me ferrous fumarate instead. This is more expensive for the GP but better tolerated by me. If you need a lot more iron, floradex alone will not be enough.
