very low 'good' cholesterol, average/low 'bad' cholesterol - any advice?

dh has been for a sort of well man check up today and was told that while his bad cholesterol was fairly low, his good cholesterol is very low and this could be worrying.
he will go and see his dr for further info, but i just wondered if anyone else had seen this and how it could be remedied. i think he was told that diet might manage it, it might be hereditry but he might need medication.
he is generally quite fit and although we have outbursts of bad eating, he eats a pretty varied and balanced diet.
any words of wisdom please?

Ways to decrease your cholesterol are : cut down on saturated fats in your diet, use olive oil instead of vegetable/sunflower oils.
Increase your intake of fibre, nuts, fruit and veg.
Take regular cardiovascular exercise(anything that gets your heart rate up and breathing faster)
Aim to eat 2 portions of oily fish per week.
this is a good site

thanks, stan. i will have look at that website later. the problem is not reducing his cholesterol but improving the good stuff. we use olive oil, he eats quite a lot of nuts and seeds and fruit, and he exercises most days.
