am a name changing regular.have changed because it's a bit embarrassing.

it's about..ahem..my bowels.

am pretty regular. normally go at least once-usually twice a day.
have a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and veg.

yesterday-i was really really bunged up and uncomfortable. tried everything. drinking lots of water, warm bath, massaged my tummy etc. nothing. felt horrid. so took a laxative[never done that before

that kicked in in the middle of the night.

am still really uncomfortable and feeling horrid now.i have no idea what has caused it and i don't like it

any advice on how to get things back to normal? do i feel ill because of the laxative? is that what they do?

Bumping for you,

but lately I've been the same from before xmas never been that way, so will watch with interest although I have noticed certain foods don't help (like dominos pizza )

purpleduck · 02/03/2009 19:14

Have you been more stressed lately? Bowels can respond to stress in various ways.

BCNS · 02/03/2009 19:15

could be anything, change of diet, stress, coming down with something.

keep up with the fibre and fluids .. you could try some of that bio yoghurt stuff.. that might help.

RumMum · 02/03/2009 19:20

Have you eaten anything different lately... I notice you say you eat plenty of fruit.. have you eaten a lot of bananas for example, as I know they really make me constipated...

geminigirl · 02/03/2009 19:26

Some strong painkillers can bung you up..the more codeine that is in them the worse they are. The laxatives have probably run the life out of you if you haven't taken them before. I would say that all the steps you were taking were probably on the way to working when you dealt the final blow by taking the laxatives.

If you feel that your bowel is still overstimulated, cut back on the fruit, fibre and granary bread for a few days until it settles.

sorry-my bowel isn't overstimulated! it's under stimulated!
i went once in the middle of the night.

i still feel sore in my tummy, and like i need to go.

don't want to take more laxatives . have just been out and bought some plums. this is totally not normal for me.

Oops! Totally misunderstood! I was thinking that if the laxative kicked in during the night that it was an exploding bum scenario and thats why you felt like cr*p..(pardon the pun).

Keep doing what you are doing, if it lasts longer than tomorrow, try to get hold of a Relaxit enema....does exactly what it says on the tin!

I find this problem is linked to my hormone balance - ever since I had ds when I was 36 my bowel 'activity' is in a slow-normal-slow cycle linked to my periods...

can't explain why this should be - just thought it might give you some insight.

Could you be Preggy?
