I've found a lump in my armpit

Small and hard, with a red patch of skin on the nearby breast (about the size of 1/2 pence). The lump is pea (the veg) sized too. I am breastfeeding and there's a little pain in an area above the lump but not the lump itself.
Any clues???

DH had one once was told it was a clump of hormones, it dissapeared soon after.

blocked milk duct?

scrooged · 01/03/2009 20:26

Is is connected to the skin or just there?

Owls · 01/03/2009 20:26

Sounds like blocked sweat gland but obviously as with any lump like that you must go and get it checked out asap.

petitmaman · 01/03/2009 20:27

A friend of mine also always gets them when she is bf ing. blocked milk ducts i think . she has to massage them

lisalisa · 01/03/2009 20:29

I have just had one divinintervention and when I saw your thread title assumed it was my thread resurecrted ( twas only a few weeks ago). Mine was also hard and small and pea sized. turned out to be a blocked cyst.

However, you absolutely must must must get it checked out. At the docs they will give you full breast exam and tehn either rule out anything sinister immediately or like mine, refer fro ultrasound or speacialist consulation. Mine was diagnosed as a cyst straight away on ultrasound within 2 mins. Very best of luck and get it seen striaght away.

lizandlulu · 01/03/2009 20:35

could it be a boil? i get them in my armpit, although i have never breast fed so cant advise on how blocked ducts etc feel, my boils usually come right in the crease and are painful

nickschick · 01/03/2009 20:38

Do u shave your armpits? could be a ingrown follicle.

HappyCrappy · 01/03/2009 20:39

Divineintervention - please don't worry too much, especially on a Sunday evening, but go, go go and get it checked asap. Let us know, if possible?

hi, I had this a couple of weeks ago, a small lump in the armpit, felt tender when pressed but not painful. I saw GP and got hospital appointment within a week, had an ultrasound, doctors 99% positive it was a cyst but being as I had a benign lump removed about 18 years ago they did a biopsy to be sure, all came back clear, as the others said always best to get it checked out....good luck.

poppy34 · 01/03/2009 21:36

blocked sweat duct- had this twice while pregnant/bf...seems hormones or something seem to make me more susceptible as never had it before or since. but I too freaked out til I went to GP.

could also be an enlarged lymph node - if you have had an infection or slight mastisis then your body will have had to make more white blood cells in the lymph node and this often causes then to swell.

go to docs - but don;t get yourself worried.

let us know how you go.

Update:
As I have glands the size of golf balls in my neck and am now feeling generally unwell (bloody awful actually) I have to see if the lump is there post virus!! No red patches on either breast and so no duct infection.
Thank you for your concern.
