Diabetic food can some one in the know advise me please.

My Dads partner has just been diagnosed Diabetic, i want to make her a cake and possibly a small food hamper for her birthday, any advice please? I know nothing about the diet of a Diabetic.

Hi Charlee, How lovely that you're thinking of doing this.

Is she type one (injecting insulin straight away) or type two (usually starts on tablets).

My type 1 son eats anything and everything. Dad's type 2 and watches his diet more carefully, although is careful about sugars.

I think the watchword is quality, and definitely NO 'special diabetic food' - expensive laxatives!

Hopefully someone with more knowledge of diet advice for type 2 will be along.

Type 2 i guess i don't think she is injecting, i know she is carefull about sugars.
